Question

Exporting PDFs

Ever since I started using this Creative Suite, I could not get files to export to PDF correctly. When I export the file, the PDF prints fine on my printer. When I email it to someone else, the file prints in the upper left corner. When I use the Adobe PDF option contained in InDesign, the problem doesn't happen.

I would rather use export because it offers more options.

    Hi JanJan,

Is it always the same "someone else"?

As I understand it, you export a PDF from CS (maybe InDesign, since this is the InDesign forum.) It prints correctly for you and in the upper left corner for someone else. How many "someone else's"?

Because if I understand this correctly, the "someone else" has set their Acrobat to print multiple pages on one sheet and you have sent a one-page document. Tell them to change their print settings. Also, ask them how it looks when they open it before printing. If it prints okay for you and not for one other person, the problem is not with the PDF.

    Or maybe I am misunderstanding?

    Let me know!

    I use Creative Suite 2017 - Windows 7

All recipients have the same problem.

The pdf files look fine on my screen (centered on page) and on recipient's screen.

But when printed after being emailed to someone, it prints in upper left corner.

Before using this version, I did not have this problem.

I suspect something is wrong in settings on with printer drivers.

    Thanks for your help.

What are the dimensions of the document you are exporting? If you open the exported version and the printed version in Acrobat you can check there sizes via File>Properties.

Nothing in your original post is clear at all.

What version of InDesign? What operating system? What is being used to view/print the PDFs? How are you exporting the PDF? What are your export settings?

    InDesign CC, 2017 - Windows 7

As stated, when I use Adobe PDF in print section, files print well when emailed. When I export, they change.

What export settings do you need to know?

    Thanks for your help.

They change? What does that mean?

What are your PDF export settings? If you go to the summary section, you can click save summary and save it as a txt file. Go to pastebin.com and copy/paste the text there. Give us a link to that summary text.

    1. What does you mean with “When I use the Adobe PDF option contained in InDesign”?
    2. What program does “someone else" use to view the PDF?

When I use pdf preset for printing, it does not happen.

When trying to export to pdf, it happens.

Some recipients are using Adobe Reader, I don't know version. Don't know what others are using.

I suspect there's something wrong in settings or print drivers.

    InDesign CC 2017, Windows 7

Thank you for trying to help.

You should never use Print to create any PDF from InDesign.

    What are your PDF settings?

It happens with any file. Can't send video. Can send a sample file if you want to check it out.
