Hi everyone,
I have to export many indesign files to rtf, and make them "nice".
I have a word model with the same paragraph styles I have in indesign so it fits perfectly.
But the problem if with the numbering lists. I cannot convert them, I need to keep the automated lists, example:
a) First sentence.
b) Second sentence.
Other paragraph.
a) New sentence reloading the list.
b) Second new sentence continuing the previous one.
When I import my rtf file in word, it became like that:
a) First sentence.
b) Second sentence.
Other paragraph.
c) New sentence reloading the list.
d) Second new sentence continuing the previous one.
it does not keep the attribute that restart the list.
Have you an idea why it is happening and if it's a bug?
If there's a solution with javascript, it could help too 🙂
Thanks,
Nicolas

Nicolas:
I'm unclear—are you asking us how to restart the list in InDesign or in Word, after exporting to the file from InDesign to RTF and opening the RTF in Word?
We can help with the numbering in InDesign, but if you are trying to get the numbers to restart in Word after the export, that's a question for the Microsoft forum.

Hello Barb,
I'm indeed trying to get numbers to restart in Word after export.
But before I look for a microsoft forum, it seems to be an attribute that should be transmitted by indesign when generating the word, what do you think?

IMPORTANT: DO THIS ON A COPY OF THE FILE!
Convert all lists to text before exporting. What you're doing here is akin to making an omelet and trying to put the eggs back in the shell.

Hi BobLevine,
Unfortunately I need to keep the numbering "auto" and not converted in case I need to increment headers or numbered lists in word. I'll create a script that insert a tag at the beginning of a paragraph that restart the numbering and try to do something with VBA in word to restart the numbering of each paragraph that contain this tag.
But I still think that's not a nonsense to keep this attribute in word because it exists in indesign aswell.
ps: "making an omelet and trying to put the eggs back in the shell" That could be fun to try 😉

So here is what you can do.
First save your file & convert all the lists to text and export to rtf..
And once done close the file without saving.
That is how you get to keep both the things..
