Figure numbering

Hi all,

i am trying to create automatic figure numbering solution. Only problem i have, is that after Heading level 1 cannot restart.

Could you please have any ideas?

You are need to define new list.

I'm not understanding your problem. Are you saying you don't want your figures to reflect the heading level?

If that's the case, you need to "name" your lists so they don't interact with each other. 

Attached is an InDesign file with various numbering examples.

ok, one more time :). I want to have figures numbering linked to heading level 1. But i dont know how to do, that it starts count from x.1 after next heading level 1 appears. On the picture below is what i want. Figure numbers on the picture are not automatically written, and i want to automatize the numbering.

ok, i have 2 separate lists from the start.

still have the problem, that figure numbers continues without restarting after heading level 1 appears.

it does not reflect the heading level.

maybe we dont understand each other.

i know that i need 2 lists, but i need to know HOW to define the new list.

Header and Figure paragraph styles needs to be in different lists.

As i am looking on the files you sent, me, it doesnt work even for you. The numbering continues without restarting after header apperas, and that is what i want to :D. We are still going in circles :D. 

i want to have figure 2.1 right after the heading with "2" appears, then continue with 2.x and when heading with "3" appears, i want to have figure number 3.1 and so on.

you have on the pictures "fig 1.7 lalala" right after heading "2. yes and no"

i want to be "fig 2.1 lalala" after heading "2. yes and no"

I am not able to describe it better 🙂

You show in last image another (header separated from figure 3 and then 1.4) - I do for you as your have in this image. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

In this case you are need to have one list and 2 different levels for your paragraph styles.

Ok, well, now it works.

So no need to do two separate lists but two levels of style with same list.

Update, it doesnot work if there are more heading levels.

Like 

1. Heading lvl 1

     1.1 heading lvl 2

          1.11 heading lvl 3

Also, if you have to use different styles anyway, what difference does it make whether you use a new list or not?

Why not works? Just do the third paragraph style with level 3. Am I need to do new screenshot here or you will find internal power to do it by your hands? ))

Please note that it addresses both numbering within a single file as well as in a book file with multiple chapters—the building blocks are slightly different in the two scenarios. From your screen shot, it looks like you are using a single file—so be sure to read all the way down to the very last paragraph.
