File -> Place - How to change default explorer to Total Commander (for example)

Hello, Im using Windows 10 and InDesign CC 13.0.1

After I press Ctrl+D (default shortcut for Place) I got the basic windows explorer menu.
I am wondering if there is a way to change it to Total Commander for example, or any other program that has better search capabilities - suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

K.

Hi Karol:

No, I don't think so.

As an organizational tip, it is always helpful to set up a project folder for each new project, and move all assets into it in advance. For this, you could use any file manager you like, and then Ctrl+D will take you to the same assets folder.

The use of project folders makes archiving projects easy, and reduces the chance of inadvertently creating missing links. If you haven't been doing this, you can use File > Package to organize existing projects with assets spread all over the place.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip!
Sadly in my particular case it won't solve the problem, we are talking about hundreds of PSDs weekly (just moving the files would be a tremendous pain). My own assets are organized and the data tree is moderated in real time, as I go. Sadly I am also using files from another source which I cannot influence, and renaming them beforehand would be pointless. It's more of a build in windows explorer mechanism problem then any other thing. In short, windows explorer search tool is handicapped, would be great if we could have the possibility to chose our own.

It's actually one of those cases where we spend seconds that turn into minutes, which turn into days and after that we could save enough time to go on a vacation instead - (look - shortcuts)

HI Karol:

I totally understand. You can put in a feature request here that will be seen by the InDesign engineering team:
