I have recently encountered an issue where InDesign eats the first keystroke after pasting text. The text may be pasted from another application, or just copy-pasted from within the same InDesign document. Please see attached video file which demonstrates the problem.
This may be related to the issue reported here: First keystroke sometimes missing in Indesign...
to wit:
when I select some text and start typing...the first keystroke does nothing. I always have to press a key 2 times before indesign replaces the selected text.
This happens almost every time. First thought it was a problem with the keyboard, but it only happens in Indesign, not in other programs.
I too was going to blame my keyboard, but I found that turning off "Show Paste Options" (in Preferences » Clipboard Handling... » Show Paste Options; see attached picture) eliminates it. I also wanted to blame Auto Style, and I still find the UI widget gets in my way, but I think the problem is really in the Paste Options.
I'm not sure if Paste Options was an available feature in 2018 regarding the other report. In any case, it happens now (and on Mac) so something needs to be fixed.
specs:
InDesign CC 19.0.1
macOS Ventura 13.6.1 (22G313) on Apple Silicon M2 Pro

Show Paste Options is a new option which I think appeared in InDesign 2023 (and now appears in InDesign 2024). It seems to have originated when the Auto Style feature originated.
Read the informaton in this Adobe document to see if helps you deal with your issue. I have almost the same system specs as you do but have never had the problem:

I've found it's not just when pasting ... if I highlight a block of text and then start to type over it, my first keystroke gets missed. Only in InDesign (on Mac) as far as I've found. Apparently a nearly identical issue arose with InDesign on Windows back in 2018.
