I want to print something upside down to correctly show on an envelope. I turn it 180° in InDesign...hit print and it comes out the same direction. So I flip it 108° again and it still prints it the same direction. It should come out upside down on the envelope. It is flipped in InDesign and not on the printed envelope. PLEASE HELP!

I have made a new file. New text boxes. Restarted everything.

Are you flipping it using Page Attributes>Rotate Spread view through the Pages Panel drop-down menu? That only changes the way you view it on screen. To really make it print upside down select it and with the reference point icon in the control panel set to center alignment  double-click on the rotate tool and choose a value of 180°. This will actually change the art.

I am physically changing the art on the document using the rotate tool and chaning it to 180.  I'be printed thousands of envelopes and have never had this problem before.  Going crazy!  It is like  somewhere (software?)  it is forcing the artwork to always print in the same place even if I physically am rotating in the document to print another direction

Logically it is either InDesign that is at fault or your printer. If it is your specific printer that is at fault I can only think of one thing that is pretty much common for most printers. When I go into the Print dialog window in the sections that are InDesign specific I can find nothing that would cause pages to invert themselves. However, when I click on the Printer button on the bottom of the dialog and go into the dialog for my specific printer under the printer options under Layout there are options there to reverse page orientation and to flip horizontally. Check in the options for your printer and see there if anything that could cause the problem might be checked.

As far as InDesign's culpability since you said that it has happened with a new document as well as the original I think that you might want to try resetting the program's preferences. This will set everything back to default and should eliminate InDesign's possible part in this.

    To do so:

For Macintosh Users: With InDesign closed Launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe InDesign” and “com.adobe.InDesign.plist”. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching InDesign and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.
