Footnotes became links in epub

In creating an ePub, some of my footnotes became links (blue, underscored but going no where). I want the footnote numbers to be links, not the footnotes. I deleted a footnote, for a test, and inserted again, same result. Please see screenshot. I need any help, thanks iin advance.

Try repairing the source doc: Save/export it to IDML Open that, save under a new name as INDD. Check document for any changes, try export to EPUB again.

It works a surprising number of times, because one of the things that process does is rebuild the document structure, and both foot notes and end notes are terribly fragile victims of import (as from Word) and lots of INDD editing.
