Hello @Benjamin38793063yzpd,

Welcome to the community!

I understand that the ability to allow a remote collaborator to modify an InDesign document using editor mode is important to you. However, currently, they will need to have an Adobe account to access editing features. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to enable editing access without one, even if you provide the document through XML or other means.

If your collaborator does not have an Adobe account, I recommend encouraging them to create a free account to access the features you need. Once they have an account, you can invite them to collaborate on your InDesign document seamlessly.

I apologize for this limitation at this time. Would you mind creating a UserVoice for this feature request (Adobe InDesign: Feature Requests: Top (5017 ideas) – Adobe InDesign (https://adobe.ly/3XMHYEp)) and adding your comments there? Doing this will help us prioritize this request, and you will be notified of any updates.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with the process, feel free to ask! We’d be happy to help.

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hello Abhishek Rao,

Thank you for your reply.
If he have a free account, could the collaborator modify the texte through editor mode ?

Hello @Benjamin38793063yzpd,

Thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, there is currently no option for collaborative editing in Adobe InDesign, meaning that remote collaborators cannot modify documents through an editor mode at this time. We apologize for any confusion caused earlier.

However, you can use the Share for Review feature in InDesign, which allows you to share a version of your document with collaborators who can then add comments and markups. While this does not allow direct editing of the file, it provides a way for feedback through the cloud interface.

To help us prioritize the collaborative editing feature for future updates, please consider creating a UserVoice for this request and adding your comments there: Adobe InDesign UserVoice.

If you have any more questions or need assistance, feel free to ask!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hello Robert,

Yes, just modifying text in a layout already designed.

I knew Share for Review but it's not really efficient.

Best regards,

How big the changes would be? Just typos or complete rewrite?

Would $5US per month (for a year subscription) be reasonable? The editor can subscribe to InCopy.

I saw this option for Incopy.

But the problem is that I often work with different interlocutors and sometimes several at the same time.

That's why the Incopy subscription is not a good option for me.

That info would have been useful to know on your original post. You implied a single editor in your OP. If I understand you correctly, you work with middle-persons and not the editors directly. Is that correct?

(InCopy allows multiple editors on a single InDesign file at once, as long as they are working on different stories.)

There are a few commerical services out there. Here are some I found with a simple google search:

https://viva.systems/designer/overview/

https://www.siliconpublishing.com/blog/editing-indesign-documents-online/

https://pageproof.com/

https://www.goproof.net/

I have not used these services, so you need to do your research.

InCopy is Adobe's solution to collaborative editing. The InCopy users will need an Adobe account but InCopy is US$60 per year, so affordable. You will both need to learn the InDesign/InCopy workflow, but it's pretty easy.

An alternative to consider is WordsFlow Pro from Em software. You still have to purchase a subscription and it is more expensive than InCopy, but it allows the editors to edit in Word and you get their edits fed into your InDesign document. If you edit in InDesign, the edits are fed to their Word files. Not much of a learning curve.

Barb, I mentioned InCopy yesterday but the OP indicated it would not work for him. I'm a little confused as to his workflow and asked for a clarification.

Yes, and my apology for the overlapping response. Sometimes, I click a page, scroll down looking for earlier responses and I don't see them until after I compose/post. Not sure what is happening, but didn't intend to repeat your InCopy info. I left it though because I didn't see a reference to WordsFlow Pro.

Can't tell you how many times I posted and refreshed to see previous posts. Some hours earlier. I blame the matrix...

Something is off (and it may be me 😉). Yesterday I posted a response and it showed up in a 2 column table. I don't see a table button so the only way I know how to create a table here is to edit the HTML which I did not do. And no, I didn't copy/paste content. I just typed it in from my head. So weird.
