Frame cross-bars not showing

New Here ,
Feb 26, 2020 Feb 26, 2020

Using InDesign 2020...

I have drawn a rectangular box using the frame tool, but it doesn't show either the outline or the cross-bar grids inside of it. (I definitely drew it with the frame tool, not the text tool. And I'm not in Preview mode.)

I've made sure that my setting is View > Extras > Show Frame Edges

Adobe Help said there should also be View > Grids & Guides > Show Frame Grid, but I don't actually have that option in the View menu.

Any ideas how to make the frame and cross-bars show? There's not much point to the frame if I can't see it.

It sounds like you're in Preview View. Choose View > Screen Mode > Normal. (Or choose the Normal mode button at the bottom of the Tools panel.)

And if you ARE in Normal view, try restoring your InDesign preferences:

As noted above, I'm not in Preview mode. 🙂

Did you act on the second part of my message (restoring InDesign preferences)?

Does it happen only in one file or in a new file as well? It could also occur if the file were corrupted. Saving the file as IDML is a way of handling that situation,

Ah, good thought. I just opened a new file and drew a frame, and it worked fine. I will try resaving my other one. Thank you again for your quick assistance. Much more useful than the Adobe Help files!

Sounds more like you used the shape tool rather than the frame tool. It's an easy error to make. You can easily reassign the content type from the object menu if you need to.
