But with all due politeness, if your skills with ID are so basic you can't lay out a simple novel, with perhaps two cascading sets of facing Parent pages and four or five paragraph styles, perhaps you're using the wrong tool.

You tagged this for EPUB, so I don't know if your aim is print, e-book or both, but in none of those cases will a template do much of anything to improve or simplify your project.
