Hello,

I need to get my bulelt list to read left to right then go onto the next line, Indesign seems to have a preference to reorder lists when unbalanced into column first then left to right.

Is there a way to control this reading order that seems baked in?

I need it to be:
ABC
DEF
but indesign reorders to
ACE
BDF

The only way is if you have 3x column TextFrames - one row high.

Or as high as you need - with column break after each item. But still you'll have to control the height.

I thought it would be something like that, I've actually went for a table so I can just drop it in and tab through it.
I understand the logic behind why adobe have made it work the way it does, but it would be nice to be able to excert a bit more control over how the list reads.

Currently working on a k-8 math product and pedagogical reasons means kids need to read left to right then next row.

How much text would be for each point?

If they are fairly equal in size - use "gridify" trick - TextFrames will be automatically threaded - then you can set Start In Next TF option in the ParaStyle.

Or it can always be scripted.

Simplistically:

if, e.g. 3 columns, just some clicks to build it in all the document!  😉
