Question

Getting undesirable symbols on an EPUB document

Hello everyone.

This is my first project exporting a book into the EPUB format.

The problem is, I'm getting letterers where there should be nothing. For instance, after the front page (text, no image), I got an "O."

Then, after every single chapter, I have a "z" between the chapter body and the endnote section.

How can I prevent that?

Many thanks in advance

Presumably this is a Reflowable ePub (as opposed to a FXL ePub)?

Hi Derek.

Yes, it is a reflowable ePub file. I read that it should be the format if (later) I want to export it to MOBI (for Kindle), which is my plan.

Thanks

Ariel

It might be worth having a months worth of this terrific validator, Flightdeck:

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about this trouble. Would you mind sharing a few more details like:

  • Which OS and version of InDesign is this?
  • Which application you are using to view EPUB?

We’re here to help, just need more info.

Regards,

Srishti

Hi Srishti

I'm using macOS Big Sur 11.4 and InDesign 16.2.1.

To view the EPUB file, I'm using the default mac app: Books.

I'll appreciate any help.

Thanks!
