GPU Preview does not work (or seldom works) with macOS Sonoma 14.0

All of my InDesign document content dissapears unless I switch to CPU Preview (existing GPU Preview). This occurred after my Mac mini (M2 Pro) was in a state of sleep (this could have been coincidence).  When I say all, I mean my menus and controls are all visisible but content is completely blank - no page, no margins, no rule lines, etc.

Known issue. Try turning off your rulers but, the best course of action is to roll back to Ventura until Apple or Adobe gets it fixed.

Happens to me all the time. It’s affects only already opened documents. If I open up a new file it works fine.

Made a little Screen Cap to illustrate. It’s in German but I’m switching between CPU and GPU Preview. In CPU Preview the Canvas glitches when I marquee select.

Thanks for replying with more detail on when this happens so I know I'm not crazy (and makes it easier to workaround the issue). I have seriously been having this issue for over a year now... damn I hate Adobe.

Update Sonoma to 14.4 - it fixes a lot of issue

Not everything is Adobes fault. 

Filtering comments in Acrobat is fixed with an update to Sonoma OS (Mac OS) - had nothing to do with how crap Apple are.

Not everything, but they build the software to work WITH Macs or PCs... their product is the software. Not sure how Apple is supposed to accomodate every piece of software out there. 

Also, fanboyings aside, I am already fully updated to 14.4 and latest Adobe software versions. So basically, this is just another work around (closing the file, then reopening seems to work) for designers to get used to.

An how are Adobe to accomodate every dot update from Apple - it's a two-way street. 

Sorry if you don't agree. I have nothing but problems on my M3 Mac with all software, not just Adobe - everything.

No problems on my Windows PC, Adobe software is smooth.

Apple is the problem, imo.

Two years later and this is still an issue - any fix Adobe? It's slowing down an already slow program to the point of being unusable.

It's only for Retina/HDPI screens/monitors - it's not needed if you don't have this. 

It literally does very little except supposedly support higher resolution screens. 

I have a Mac M3 and a HDPI display and I always turn off the GPU performance thing - I would never really have it on. 

It does nothing for performance of the software.

And why specifically do you need to do this and under which conditions? In this thread several problems mixed together are listed, so it's not exactly clear.

What are your InDesign and macOS versions? What's your state of GPU Preview and Performance? How does it affect the problem?

When my Mac (15.6.1) display goes to sleep, then reawakens with an InDesign (20.5) document open in GPU preview, the document window goes entirely blank - all pages disappear, it's just the pasteboard that's visible. Zooming in/out doesn't fix it, nor does toggling rulers or GPU in settings, or switching to CPU or Overprint views. The only fix I have is to close the document and re-open it. I can add a screenshot next time it happens.

I use an external monitor (USBC) but this problem seems to be present regardless of whether it's plugged in or not, it still happens on my laptop only screen.

Interestingly, I switched animated zoom off earlier (it was previously on), and it now appears to toggle the screens back if I switch between GPU/CPU when this happens. So that's a partial workaround for now I suppose!

Just tried this - it doesn't happen! So I guess it's just an issue with GPU. I'll keep it switched off.

As I said - unless you have a HDIP display there's little point of having it on. 

I've never really seen a reason to keep it on - no real advantage. If it works when it's on then great - but no big deal if you turn it off - you're not missing out on anything.
