How to detect them in situations like this?

 

Ku (normal position

or

Ku (were the red u is a subscript letter)

 

The idea is later to list all of them, in both positions.

You have a formula that catches the "u" in the Ku software. You can then solve this problem by creating a character style of how you want this "u" to behave.

Both super script and sub script do not happen naturally at the same time.

The idea is to detect both in normal position and subscript...
