Helvetica Now variable font scaling issue

New Here ,
Apr 01, 2024 Apr 01, 2024

Hi there!

I'm using Helvetica Now variable on some projects and have had issues with it in creative suite for months. I'll set the size and weight, which works fine, but as soon as I try to scale the text, the font breaks. For example, when scaling text in Helvetica Now Display Regular, it will become Display Comp Extralight as soon as I change the size. This happens both when enlarging the text frame and the contents within, as well as manually increasing the point size in the character window. I've tried re-installing the font to no avail, and not sure where to go from here.

Anyone had the same issue?

I tried recreating your problem, and could not. So it might be your document has corruption. It might be that your install of InDesign needs prefs and cache reset. Have you experimented with either of those?

There were several issues with variable fonts in InDesign 19 and it seems that most of them have been fixed.

This is the bug report and it has been marked as fixed by Adobe DESPITE the reports that it has not been fixed for all affected fonts! https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/47344655-problem-with-v...

As far as I understand issues remain at least with Helvetica Now and Futura Now ( I only have Futura Now).
And nobody seems to care!
- Adobe is not responding as you can see.

- Monotype also gave me a deplorable reply like "Unfortunately, we are not aware if the issue still persists or not." and "we won't be able to assist you with this".

The issue clearly exists and I imagine it has something to do with the structure of these two fonts. But in InDesign 18.5 they do work fine so somehting was broken in ID 19.
