Question

Hex Codes changing

I'm working in InDesign, and I'm changing the text color to a specific hex code (2e46ff). So, I highlight the text I'm changing within the text box, and open the text fill (X), and paste the code into the # spot. It changes in the color space view but when I click OK, it goes to another color entirely (465ca9). I can't figure out what the issue is. I've tried changing it manually using the color space view, but the same thing happens, and it always jumps to that new color. I tried other random colors, and the hex code does adjust, I assume because it's adjusting for CMYK, but the adjustment isn't very noticeable, only a few numbers off on the hex code. But jumping from 2e46ff to 465ca9 is pretty darn noticeable.

So, am I missing something, or am I just out of luck?

Before you click OK make sure your cursor is in an RGB field and the 3rd button is Add RGB Swatch and not Add Lab or Add CMYK. Hex is an RGB notation so you can't convert to Lab or CMYK and expect the RGB values to hold.

And what do you do if the third button says "Add CMYK Swatch"? How do I change that to RGB?

Same answer. Click in any of the RGB input fields and that button will change.
