Hidden Tools on PC

I am a new InDesign user, and I am having trouble unhiding the tools in the program. I have the full Adobe Creative Cloud Suite downloaded on my work PC, and I'm usually able to watch tutorials to solve my problems, but I am totally stumped right now.

Any ideas or guidance is appreciated.

What? This makes no sense. Please delete all ID preferences and re-launch the app. If the problem persists, uninstall then re-install.

I was able to find my tools by selecting Essentials in the drop down. Thanks for your input though!

From your screen shot it looks like things are missing which shouldn't be. First try going under the Workspace pull-down menu which should be on the top right of your screen and pull down to Essentials Classic. If that doesn't work then there are some other possibilities.

You said that you have the Creative Cloud Suite downloaded which sounds like a combination of Creative Cloud which is what the most current versions of InDesign are and Creative Suite which are earlier versions of the program (pre 2012) which are not supported for Windows 10 or any Macintosh OS later than Yosemite (10.10). If you are trying to run an older version on a new operating system then the problem you describe could be happening that way and there is little that can be offered other then to suggest running the old software on an old machine or getting newer software for a current machine.

If incompatibility is not an issue then deleting your InDesign cache files could help (this is different than deleting preference files). This fix can help with problems within the interface.

    To do so:

For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which InDesign’s cache files are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N).With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire folder “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the InDesign cache folder completely leads to a lasting change.

For Windows Users: On Windows 7 and above the caches files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version [#]\<Language>\Cache.

    Hi Miranda,

Thank you for reaching out to us. If I get it, you are unable to unhide the tools in InDesign? I believe it's happening because the Workspace selected is Touch, please select Essentials as your workspace and all the tools should be available. Please refer to the below screenshot for more detail:
