How do I place the control panel on the side with Properties/Pages

Please post a screenshot. I have a feeling you may be talking about the tool bar. 

As far as I know, you can only float the Control Panel. Grab it on the left-most side and you can pull it down to float at the bottom or other locations of your screen. But it doesn't change shape to a vertical configuation. And we're talking about this is the Control Panel, right? 

Hmmm...as far as I can tell, there's no option to dock the Control Bar on the side. Maybe I'm missing something; not sure how you had it there.
