How do I remove embedded graphics from a text box?

I have cut and pasted native vector based objects into a text box, but after editing, I can't remove them (cmd-X) without being embedded into other text boxes when I paste outside on the pasteboard.  I  need them to be separate from text....  It feels like I'm missing something simple...

Never mind....  I had to (cmd-X) with the selection tool, not the text tool...  Excuse me while I beat my head against the wall...

In order to do what you're trying to do you must select the pasted vector object using the regular selection tool (blcak arrow) rather than selecting it with the Text cursor. Then, still using the regular selection tool you can paste it anywhere without it being in a text frame.

Read my first reply to myself...  I knew it had to be obvious...
