Question

How do I turn simple tooltips back on in InDesign?

Am I going mad? Indesign used to have tooltips, didn't it? If so perhaps I turned them off at some point as I felt I didn't need them. However, new version, new tools etc, but I can't for the life of me work out how to turn the simple hover tool labels back on.

Either it's so blindingly obvious that it's ungoogleable and I'm too stupid to be able to work it out, or... something else.

Please help! Windows 11, InDesign 20.0.1

Hi @clarek11012168,

Yes, InDesign does have tooltips! To turn them back on:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Interface (Windows) or InDesign > Preferences > Interface (Mac).
  2. Under Tooltips, ensure Normal or Fast is selected.

Restart InDesign if needed, and you should see the hover labels again. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks,

Thank you so much! I'd scanned that panel several times but just missed it because I guess I was reading every check box on the left hand side and my brain just filtered out everything on the right!

Hi @Easyoldlife,

I'm glad to hear that the solution worked for you! It's easy to overlook certain settings when scanning through preferences, but I'm happy you found the tooltip option. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out!

Best,
