How to Align Cutline Under Photo with Text Wrap in InDesign

New Here ,

I'm trying to insert a cutline under a photo in a news story for a community shopper. I've done the text wrap on the image box for the photo and the text wraps around it nicely. I can't get the cutline to fit right under the photo. If I pull the top bounding box line for the cutline down to the top of the type it sends the text I enter to the middle of the bounding box. It won't let it go to the top of the bounding box thus there's too much space between the top of the cutline and the bottom of the bounding box. Any help is appreciated as I'm trying to send to printer in about four hours.

Just for clarity, cutline is a newspaper term; the InDesign/layout term is more commonly caption. Only matters if you try to look up help, tutorials, info etc. I am not sure cutline is frequently cross-referenced.

But I think your problem is a simple one: you have text wrap applied to the image frame that is pushing the caption/cutline text around. With the image frame selected, look at the Text Wrap pane. You should have something like "wrap around" selected, but the bottom value should be zero. (And, for the text frame holding the caption, you'll also want Wrap Around with suitable left-right-bottom values; the top value should be zero for consistency but doesn't really matter for an image area).

OR you can leave text wrap off for both elements, and set it after you align and group them. There are reasons that can be a little messy but in one-and-done layouts like a newsletter, they don't matter much. And then you can adjust wrap distances on all four sides without having to fuss around.
