How to Align Document Grid to Baseline?

Advocate ,
Jun 12, 2023 Jun 12, 2023

Without changing the relative position of the Baseline, is there a way to align the Document Grid to it?
Basically, I have a 15pt Baseline Grid, and would like to use an aligned 7.5pt document grid.

Hi @Lukas Engqvist , your rulers are set to millimeters—I think the gridlines would have to be every 7.5 points not millimeters:

For that to work your Start and Top Margin dimensions would have to be multiples of 15:

You can set where the document grid and the baseline grid start.
I don't know how many subdivisions you want on your document grid.

15pt document grid with 2 subdivisions would also work?

Thanks  - but the issue that I have is when set as Relative To: Top Margin... the grids apparently start at different locations:

Well, sure - but 7.5 is an even multiple of 15. And, it will do a 7.5 point grid or baseline... so I'm not getting why they're fractionally different.

If it's aligned to start by the page rather than margin, it works.

IOW, it appears that the Document Grid cannot be aligned to a start point like the Baseline Grid can.

FWIW we should be able to set them identically, or differently if we choose... as well as have more choices as to where the grid starts (top, bottom, center...) 🙂

If it's aligned to start by the page rather than margin, it works.

In your capture the Start is 36pts from the Top margin, so to get the baselines to align to the grid the Top Margin + the Baseline Start would have to be a multiple of the15pt Baseline amount. I was showing a 75pt Top Margin + a 30pt Start, but it could also be a 69pt Top Margin + a 36pt Start:

But in this case the Page’s Top Margin doesn’t align with the Document Grid because 69 is not equally divisible by 15
