Good morning. I am getting a new work PC and I was wondering how to backup and restore my Adobe InDesign settings?

Backing up preferences is extensive and inconsistent. If you really want to have an exhausting detail on the matter, I suggest you read "InDesign 2022 a tour of 27 presets, styles, and automations" which explains how to create, backup, save, and restore 27 different preferences and presets settings.

Hi earla26986498,

if both machines are with Windows and both machines have the same version of InDesign installed you could backup and replace the InDesign preferences and the InDesign cache folders. With InDesign 2022 both have the same name: Version 17.0  ( with InDesign 2021 the name is Version 16.0 for example ) and both are located in your user folder in different subfolders.

To find both folders you need to invoke the option to see invisible files and folders in your system.

This option is turned off by default.

InDesign Preferences:

User > USERNAME > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > InDesign > Version 17.0

InDesign Cache:

User > USERNAME > AppData > Local > Adobe > InDesign > Version 17.0

More:

If you have made custom PDF Export presets for InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop you should transfer them as well:

User > USERNAME > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings

The same with custom *.csf color management setting files for InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop you have on your old machine:

User > USERNAME > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Color > Settings

Uwe Laubender
