How to create a complete table of contents that includes all paragraph styles from every chapter in

Hi everyone,

I’m having a problem and would really appreciate your help.

I have 5 separate InDesign files, one for each chapter of my book. I created a book by going to File -> New -> Book and added all 5 files.

I already have the paragraph styles set up for the headings and subheadings that I want to appear in the Table of Contents.

My question is: How can I generate a complete Table of Contents that gathers all the paragraph styles from every chapter in the book?
When I try to generate a TOC, InDesign only seems to pull content from the first file, and it doesn’t include the rest of the chapters.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Thank you so much in advance!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Add a new file for the TOC, then add that to the book. Create your TOC in that new document, making sure to enable 'Include book documents':
