How to embed a GIF into InDesign?

Is there a way to embed a GIF into InDesign, similar to the way you embed a video using HTML code? It seems like maybe GIFY might be a solution, but Im not sure.  I don't mean place a GIF, I mean embed. I have a very large GIF and I'm looking for a way to keep file sizes small. Thanks!

You can place an animated GIF file in a frame (no need for HTML) and it will work in fxl-epub when viewed in certain apps, like Apple Books or through Publish online. It will not work anywhere else, like PDF. What you suggesting is a link to a file somewhere else (like a movie online), do you expect it to play inside the frame?

Why do you need to embed it and what is the end use of this InDesign document?

Animated GIFs depend on the viewer, which is nearly always a browser or something with browser DNA. There's (obviously) no way to do it in a printed document, and PDF does not support the animated format.

If you just mean a small image file size, both JPEG and PNG can be brought to very small sizes with some tradeoff of resolution.
