How to fix "balance rigged lines" function not working [Short guide]

I have tested this problem for a while and have found a few things to look at:
1) Put in some text for testing with the [basic paragraph] style.

If this text does not work with Balance Ragged Lines:

Check if the Composer (in Paragraph panel flyout menu) is set to Adobe Paragraph Composer as “Balance Ragged Lines”.

If this text does work with Balance Ragged Lines:

Check that the paragraph styles you are using do NOT have justification turned on as this will take precedence over the Balance Ragged Lines function.

You should not work with [Basic Paragraph Style].

  • Create Paragraph styles.
  • Take care on the Keep settings. Keep lines together to avoid widdows and nephews, keep with next to avoid separation from headlines with the following text and keep with previous to avoid that text which is important to be together with previous text are parameters which are respected and may avoid balanced columns.
  • Text wrap may hinder balancing.
  • Work on fine adjustment settings.

Do ALL of that above only in Paragraph Styles.

The option Don't allow line break (should be defined as character style) can influence the balancing.

Never work without styles, avoid manual formatting!

Thanks for the further inputs.
I'm not an advanced user and my idea was simply to share a possible solution to a problem I have seen others mention. I did not mean to suggest people should do manual formatting in general but simply to use the [Basic Paragraph Style] for troubleshooting purposes.
