Question

How to fix the screen going black when I move the boxes

When placing or moving images and text boces, the screen momentarily goes black and the content reappears only after the movement is complete.

I thought it might be an issue with Mac OS, so I updated to the latest version "Sequoia" but the problem persists. How can I resolve this issue?

Beyond deliberately changing those three things I described above to see if it provokes a response, I now read that your GPU performance is grayed out. This leads to the question: What year is your mac? How much RAM are you running? How much video RAM? Aging machines will sometimes have too little of these capacities that InDesign looks for when it is being installed. If less than (I think) 2GB video RAM, it might gray out the GPU performance. If you have a new and powerful machine, than I would suggest a deep clean removal and reinstall. Guidance for this is here:

My Mac is a 2019 model with 8 GB of RAM (AMD Radeon Pro 580X).

I'll check out the link you shared.

Thank you!

Just in case: you have 48 GB RAM.  8 GB is the video memory.

That is, your issues are unlikely to be caused by insufficient memory.

Does this still happen in Normal view?

What is your Preferences > Interface > Options > Live Screen Drawing set to?

What is your Preferences > Display Performance set to?

What is your Preferences > GPU Performance set to?

Hi @yokota_7293,

The behavior you’re describing can sometimes be linked to performance settings or external display setups. Let’s try a few steps to narrow it down:

1. Switch to CPU Preview: In InDesign, go to View > Display Performance > Typical Display or press shift + E to switch to CPU Preview. This reduces the reliance on GPU rendering, which might resolve the issue.

2. Check Display Setup:

• Are you using an external monitor? If so, please confirm:

• The connection type: HDMI or USB-C/DisplayPort?

• The monitor’s refresh rate and resolution settings.

3. Share Your System Specs: Let us know your Mac model and specifications (e.g., M1/M2, RAM, and macOS version).

Let us know how these steps work for you or if you need more assistance! 😊

Best,

Thank you for your advice!

1. Display Performance setting was already Typical Display.

2. I using dual monitors and it is DVI-D.

3. Please see the attached screenshot.

I think the cause of this issue is Mac OS15.
