How to get Transform panel in InDesign

Community Beginner ,
Jan 14, 2020 Jan 14, 2020

Anytime I add a stroke which outlines an object or which sits on the object path the dimensions of the object change. I know the had been an option "dimensions include stroke weight" but I can't find it anymore! Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Rob is absolutely correct. You may find the Transform panel under Window > Object & Layout.

I have attached a screenshot as well for your reference:

Hope it helps.

Hi Olympia,

there is no good solution or workaround for your new issue.

InDesign is always calculating the visible bounds of objects for alignment.

Only a script could help that is working with aligning path point positions or path segments.

You could do a new feature request or support a feature request by voting if there is already one:

yes, thanks! don't know why I couldn't find it before. It was too confusing that I had to open that window even though the transform setting where already there.

sorry, next problem now! Now the border changes and is always outside the stroke. This way I can't align the strokes of two boxes on top of each other.

Within the Stroke panel is the Align Stroke option. Is this what you are looking for?

no, my problem is whenever I align the stroke the border of my selection also changes. I simply want the selection to be always the same, no matter how I change the stroke, so that I can align the edges of two boxes exactly on top of each other and the strokes are also on top of each other when the option for the stroke to be aligned to the middle of the path is selected. Hope this is clear now.

I still don't follow you 100%. Are you saying that when you change the Align Stroke option the actual size of your object is changing?

Here's a couple of thoughts…

Do you have any kind of Snapping turned on that could be a factor here?
Menu > View > Grids & Guides

Are there any options within the flyout menu of the Transform panel that may help?
