How to Import Downloaded Files into InDesign

I am a begginer on working with InDesign and i am in school for it. I need to put a file into the app to work on it so i downloaded it but when i try to open the file it is all greyed out and i cant open it. Does anyone have tips for me or am i doing something completely wrong lol.

A common problem is the file is still zipped. Turn on your Finder/Desktop extensions so you can see what type of file it is at a glance. If it's still a zip file, right-click on it and expand it.

If you are trying to OPEN a graphic to be used in InDesign, you can't.  To use the graphic, you choose File > Place and select the graphic. Click the placement cursor to place it on your InDesign page.
