How to import mp4 videos into indesign

I've looked up several tutorials on how to do this. However, whether I drag and drop it or go to File>Place it always says 'import failed' could this be a problem with the mp4 or the indesign file?

Correct answer Diane Burns

Ah I understand it better now, I tried with an ebook reader and it works however it messes up my spreads. I think I'll publish online also just incase. Thanks for your help.

Publish Online is a great alternative, and supports video as well as all of InDesign's interactive features. Some great examples here: http://bit.ly/PubOnCollection

Video won't be successful in a PDF and only use FXL ePub (not Reflowable ePub).

You can also use InDesign's Publish Online.

Make sure you have the proper format. Even if yours is, you might want to reconform it by using something like Adobe Media Encoder to convert it to a known usable format, like H.264 MP4
