How to manually imbed Typekit into custom CSS file for EPUB conversion?

New Here ,
Mar 19, 2020 Mar 19, 2020

I have used InDesign + Typekit to design a book for print, and am now coding the ebook version manually using HTML/CSS files in Brackets. I would like to imbed a typekit font into the CSS stylesheet for later conversion into EPUB using Calibre.

So far, I haven't yet found a resource explaining how to actually imbed a Typekit font into an eBook properly, only that Adobe says you can imbed it into EPUBs. Could anyone direct me to an explanation on how to link an Adobe Typekit font file into a CSS file to be used on Ebook devices? Only CSS-Typekit information I fount was for website CSS, but ebook devices are not connected to the internet 24/7, thus making that sort of CSS inclusion for eBook non-practical in the real world.

Hi,

I think you have to purchase special licensed Adobe Font ( Typekit ) fonts for this purpose.

Better ask this at "Type & Typography":

Adobe Typekit is now called Adobe Fonts. All Adobe fonts, as part of the Creative Cloud suite, are licensed for ePubs.

Are you creating a Reflowable ePub or a FXL ePub?

You can link to an external CSS via the Export to Reflowable / Fixed Layout dialogue box.

Hi Derek,

but how can an EPUB reading device have access to an Adobe Font when it is offline?

Will the Adobe Font be included into the EPUB file?

Hi Uwe,

Yes, the font is saved in the EPUB package file, making it available to the e-reader.
