How to measure an object size in InDesign?

Participant ,
Apr 16, 2017 Apr 16, 2017

In a document I've been working on a long time, I can select an object and its dimensions appear in the menu

next to the dimensions of the document dimensions.

But in my new InDesign document, it doesn't. I tried all I could to find the answer, but no luck.

     Thanks,

      Morty

The dimensions of an InDesign object when selected are visible in the Control panel (the W and H fields shown below), or the Transform panel.

Yes, Steve,

The H and W shows in my older document, but not in the new one.

The Object>Transform doesn't give dimensions either—it allows the change of size.

Thanks,

Morty

Morty, post a screen shot — similar to Steve's. Otherwise we can only guess at what you are seeing.

Thanks, jane-e.

But now my document where I COULD see the dimensions in the W & H place, ISN'T showing it.

Your Control panel is closed. First try Window > Control. If that doesn't make it visible, try restoring your InDesign preferences:

Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences

Steve and jane-e,

My Control Panel wasn't closed, but not as complete as usual.

Of all things, I doodled around some more and saw Essentials on the right of the Control Panel,

and when I dropped the menu Essentials was checked but there was a choice of Previous Essentials,

and that did it.

Thanks for your support. How do I close this discussion. I don't want to mislead other people with this problem

by checking Correct Answer.
