"Hello. How can I, in a template design for metallic engravings for trophies created in Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, input 472 names from an Excel or Word list without having to manually create an individual template for each name by copy and paste?"

You probably want to look at InDesign's Data Merge feature, which will merge formatted (organized) data into almost any combination of defined fields in a page layout.
