I'm trying to open an InDesign file from a flashdrive on my Windows PC but it only gives options like Internet Explorer, Notepad, Paint, Windows Media Player and Word, but no Adobe anything. I have Creative Cloud as well but currently none of the programs downloaded. Once I download InDesign, will I be able to open my file normally?
When you right-click on the file, select Open With, and if you don't see InDesign there, select Choose another app, and find your installed version of InDesign on the system.

Probably but do NOT try to work from or save to a Flash Drive. Copy to your local disk before opening. Copy back after saving.
You don’t have to double click to open a file. You can open from inside the app.

Oh yes be sure to install EXACTLY THE SAME version of Indesign. DON’T MiX versions.

Wouldn't properly installing InDesign automatically link .indd files to the application? It usually does.

Yes.

Windows will sometimes "forget" file associations, especially after upgrading apps.
Follow Cari Jansen's advice.
If InDesign is not listed in the default apps, scroll down until you see "More apps"
However, click "Always use this app to open .indd files" first.
Also, I would copy it off the flash drive first. They are OK for transport, but not the best device to work off of.

I’ve been using Windows since 3.0 and have never seen it “forget” a file association.

The key word was "sometimes"...
I wouldn't have said it if I haven't seen it happen.
In either case, the process to correct the problem is the same.
