How to Place Video or GIFs in InDesign 19.4

I am trying to place a video into InDesign 19.4. I create an image box and place the mp4 or gif but it does not load. Can you walk me through it? Once I finish, I'll save as a high-res file and upload into vimeo. Video source: https://satlib.cira.colostate.edu/event/hurricane-helene/

What format are you exporting to? InDesign is not a video tool and doesn't export to any video format. You can embed videos in PDF, but that is a shaky option at best (because of PDF's limitations, and those of various PDF viewers, not InDesign).

What is your project goal, here?

I design a green-industry publication using InDesign, upload the high-res pdf and then send out the issue.com link. There's an article about the hurricane damage in western NC. I'd like to put the satellite mp4 or gif into the article.

I don't believe any PDF viewer supports animated GIF, but I may be wrong. I know video can be embedded, but it depends a great deal on the viewer, and not all are the same. The last I looked, video support in PDF required Flash, which is as dead as a doornail.

I don't think you can get there from here, in other words. You can get video from InDesign to HTML export, and EPUB, but not PDF.

** upload to issuu (not vimeo)
