How to properly package an InDesign file with all fonts for print?

Hi everyone, I’m preparing an InDesign 2025 project for professional printing and want to make sure I’m packaging everything correctly, especially the fonts. I know InDesign has a Package feature, but I’m unsure if it reliably collects all the fonts used in the document, including custom and system fonts. Are there any best practices or extra steps I should take to ensure no font issues occur at the printer’s end? Also, are there certain font types (like OpenType or custom icon fonts) that I should handle differently when packaging? Would appreciate any advice — thanks in advance!

Usually, you don't send any InDesign package for professional printing. You send a PDF.

InDesign will not package CJK fonts nor will it package fonts synched through the Adobe Fonts service. Even those fonts it will package usually require the recipient to have a licence.

 

As already mentioned, do not send a live file; send a PDF. If the printer won't take it, be prepared for all kinds of problems or find a new printer.

      InDesign won't package "protected" fonts - and fonts installed from Adobe Fonts. 

       

      And as others said - do not send "open" files - only PDF. 

       

      Somehow missed "for professional printing" 😞
