Question

How to re-install inDesign? I keep getting stripey images and I need a fix for this asap.

I'm placing 300dpi cmyk jpgs. They look fine when placed.

The problem happens when I re-open the file. Nothing has changed, but the images are striping.

What's happening?

Would a re-install of inDesign fix this issue?

Hey @sja2014 did you manage to fix this? I have the exact same issue, small version of image appearing top left and crazy glitch striping in the rest of the frame. Have tried turning off GPU, restarting etc

Hi @Astonished_Wizard3265,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I wanted to check whether you're still facing this issue or if it has since been resolved.

If the problem persists, could you please confirm your InDesign version, operating system version, and GPU model? Also, let us know where the linked images are stored, on a local drive, external drive, network drive, or a cloud-synced location such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Creative Cloud Files.

If you're using macOS, please ensure that both InDesign and the Creative Cloud Desktop app have Full Disk Access enabled under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, as this has helped in similar image-rendering cases.

Additionally, please test the issue from a new local administrator user account. Ref:

For macOS: https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mh15191/mac

For Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32

Finally, please let us know whether the issue affects all linked images or only certain JPG files. If it's limited to specific images, it may be related to the image source or workflow.

Thanks,
Abhishek

Hi @Astonished_Wizard3265,

I just wanted to check in and see whether you're still experiencing this issue or if it has since been resolved. If you're still running into it, please let us know so we can continue investigating and help get it resolved.

Also, could you check whether the same image displays correctly in other Adobe applications such as Photoshop or Illustrator? If the issue appears there as well, it could indicate that the image file itself is corrupted rather than an InDesign-specific issue.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Where are the images stored?  Are you on a Mac?

No, my images are full color. What appears is a small version of the image that appears in the upper left of the picture box, and the rest of the picture box is filled with full color vertical stripes. The links are all OK, but sometimes I get a message about an image not being found, even though nothing is missing.

Some images in the thread I linked to are also color images.

Can you post some screenshots that illustrate the issue. Also, where did the images originate? In addition, did you try the workarounds listed in that thread, and if so, did it make any difference?

The only guess I have is that you're on a Mac and have GPU Performance enabled. Turn it off.

If that's not it, give us screenshots and system details.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.
