How to Rename Pages in InDesign for Easier Identification

Community Beginner ,
Sep 13, 2024 Sep 13, 2024

Is there a way I can name a page in the Pages panel to something I can easily recognise so that I can find or move a page without difficulty?

Like how you can rename an artboard in Illustrator.

Hope I'm using the proper terminology!

Have you thought about using Book feature?

Hi @Niall5CB2,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand how helpful it can be to have a more intuitive way to manage and identify pages in your InDesign document.

You might find this community post helpful: [Renaming Pages](https://adobe.ly/3MNStSA). It provides a solution for renaming pages in InDesign that might be useful for your situation.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance, just let me know!

Thank you,

Abhishek Rao

Thanks,

I decided to go with this suggestion from @tgm2465

"Closest thing I found was Pages > Right-click the page thumbnail > Numbering & Section Options. You can put 8 letters in "Section Prefix". It still makes you put a number, but I just set them all to "Start Page Numbering at: 1" .

I know it's not clean designing, but it helped. "

I don't understand why it isn't straightforward in Indesign, this seems to be the best way but it's still very hokey (I'm limited to 8 characters and have to keep the number).

@Niall5CB2

What is your workflow? Why do you have to move pages so frequently?

I don't really, in this case I was given a project to put together a booklet which comprises of different categories - I'm given certain categories and add them on as I get them - later I'm told the order the categories need to go in the booklet.

A category can vary between 3 and 8 pages each.

In your case - you could add new INDD files - then shuffle them around - then export final PDF.

As long as each category can stay within a single INDD file - there are no overlaps - different categories on the same page.

You are welcome.

But be careful with Synchronisation options.

If you'll have Styles / Swatches with the same name - in multiple documents - but with different definitions - synchronisation will make them the same, overwriting differences.
