Hi, I've generated an index in InDesign for the first time. This is a general index in which some reference entries are names and some are other things. I see how to get the names to show up according to the person's last name (and will now go back and edit those entries accordingly), but I do not see how to get those names to show up as "Lastname, First Name." I see nothing about this in Adobe's article on indexing. Any ideas?
Thanks, Mike! Does that need to be entered for every instance of that name in the text, or can it be done with the "Add All"? What I saw is that you have to track down every single instance, and use a shortcut for each of them. I did some experimentation, though, and found that it looks like you can simply edit the final index to reverse the names. I saved my experimental file, closed it and reopened it, and it looked ok. Brute force, but it worked, and was faster and more assured than tracking down each one of many possible instances. Does that make any sense to you? Many thanks, Debra

Thank you for that, Mike! By GREP, I gather you mean brute force editing? That's what I ended up doing! It's come out just fine, and allowed me to deal with inconsistencies in the way authors' names are cited, and so on. I tried this on an experimental document, to make sure it would save, close and then reappear properly, and it worked fine. Thanks! Debra
