hi,
I want to split the following word differently then Indesign suggests:
Indesign splits the word 'ASMR-video' as
....... ASMR-vi-
deo .....
I want it to be:
........ ASMR-
video ....
when I put a soft hyphen behind ASMR, the soft hyphen disappears when my text flow changes.
then I get 'ASMRvideo' which is incorrect.
when I mark the word 'video' as 'do not split', the whole 'ASMR-video' moves to the next line instead of video on its own. this creates ugly spaces between the words in the first line.
is there a way to keep the hyphen in these compositions?
thanks
k

Hi,
Can you confirm the version of your software and operating system?
In the Paragraph style used to format the text, check the Hypenation settings.
You can try to set it so the minimum of characters going to the second line is set to 5. But make sure that does not affect negativaly the rest of your file.

hi eric,
thanks for your reply.
I work with OS 10.14.6 Mojave en IDD 2020.
so you suggest to make a second paragraph style for only these cases? the rest of my (long) paragraph looks terrible then because my test is not flagged.
there are also other combinations with this 'ASMR':
ASMR-artist, (now ASMR-ar-/tist)
ASMR-program...
