Select the anchored object, then cut. Make sure  you dont have an active text cursor and Paste. It's now a free-floating object.

In addition to Peter: unlocking objects with the anchor switch might be prohibited in the Indesign preferences. Check there first. Alternatively, there is a function like "Unlock all objects", available from "Objects" menu.

Hi @MQubed,

Sorry for the delay in response. Are you still experiencing the issue in the 19.4 version? Do you have any locked objects in the file? Are all the options under Menu greyed out?

Let us know and we will be happy to help you.

Thanks,

Harshika

I believe your answer is below. Locked and anchored are not the same thing, so the options to manage a locked object would not be available for an anchored object. Anchored objects are also sometimes blocked from direct access as in the first answer, so the solution is — or should be — as below: click the object, right-click on the anchor icon, select Anchored Options, and click Release. (The other choice, Anchored Options, lets you set all the parameters for the image positioning, locking, etc.)

This might be 2 years late and not very helpful, but to un-anchor an object go Object > Anchored Object > Release while the anchored object is selected. Happy Days.
