Hyperlink QR-Code with date merge

Hi everyone,

I'm using the latest Adobe InDesign CC on a Mac. And i got the following problem.

I have to create over 1000 labels. On the labels I have product text in 26 languages. So I have to save the date merge file as a "UTF-16 Unicode-Text". Every label got a own QR-Code witch is linked to the product discription on our homepage. I also tryed to create a CSV file with only the QR-Code but that didn't work too.

The link is for example "http://www.rowe-mineraloel.com/product.php?anr=20125&‬lang=de"

I managed to get that as a QR-Code in my data merge. But the problem is, if I put URL: in front of it as described in the Link "https://helpx.adobe.com/de/indesign/using/data-merge.html" it only puts the word URL: in front of the hyperlink but it wont change the QR-Code type to hyperlink. That couses the problem that if you scan the code, it won't be recogniezed as a link and you get an error or you get to the main page but not to the particular product.

Has anyone a solution for my problem? Thank you in advanced.

Kind regards

Erwin W.

I have written more about variable QR Codes via Data Merge on InDesignSecrets: https://indesignsecrets.com/data-merge-qr-codes-explained.php

It is also important to note that not all QR Code readers or phone operating systems will interpret the QRcode in the same way. Some QR Code readers will see a line that says: URL:http://www.colecandoo.com and correctly link it as a web hyperlink, while other readers will simply display the text.

Hi Colin, hi Srishti,

unfortunately your information about the QR code are the same I found befor in the Adobe help center. They also suggest to use URL: in front of the hyperlink. But that dosn't change the QR type to a hyperlink it is still a text QR code with the word URL written in front of the link and so the apps want recognize the hyperlink. My hyperlink also isn't as easy as www.google.com. I need it for the code "http://www.rowe-mineraloel.com/product.php?anr=20001‭&‬lang=de". Maybe i have to use another style because I use a mac? Something like URL/ or so, I don't know. I tryed a lot and nothing worked. 😞
