Hyperlinks that are visible within the doc: text > Hyperlinks > edit hyperlinks pane are not showing up in the Window > Interactive > Hyperlinks pane. (see screen shot).
2 links are listed in the Hyperlinks pane and they work.
The rest of the hyperlinks can go to the destination within and to other InD docs. But when compiling all the 20+ docs into a book, those links don't work. They default to the 1st page of the book.
Tech specs: Mac OS Sequoia 15.1.1
InDesign v20.0.1
So how can the links be restored to appear in the Window>Hyperlinks Pane?
And then made to work in the Book PDF?
Urgent help needed, please! I have already:
• re-saved as idml & updated the doc.
• deleted cache & preferences a few times.
• tried to re-create a few links, but they still don't appear in the hyperlinks pane
Some background: this InD Book has been in use for years and regularly updated and has functioned as expected in the past. This problem has not come up before. Possibly upgrading to new OS & latest InD has changed something?
Many thanks in advance,
Angela
Very informative! And a great time-saver.
This looks like your app.Is it available for public to buy/subscribe/???
By @Angela PS Chan
Yes, most of the functionality is available in the free version.
It's available on weekly or monthly basis - you can buy "tokens", that are exchangeable to activation keys - so user isn't bound by a yearly contract - it's a "pay as you go" model.
But it's PC only. Mac users could access it only "indirectly".

Mac version - unfortunately, will never gonna happen.

You & your app is a godsend!
Regarding the broken TOC links, a contributor on another board suggested using this script:
https://github.com/raphaelmatto/indesign/blob/main/RelinkBookDocuments.jsx
I was able to copy the script but it wouldn't paste into the required folder, so haven't been able to use it. Might it work for you?

Thank you 🙂
This script just relinks files in the book - not actual links?

I've just copied your old Book INDB file to the new folder - and all files relinked automatically:
Top - loction of the new INDD files - bottom - old INDD files.
But when I add your TOC file - it doesn't change anything...
As I've said on priv - you need to make this TOC to work with those numbered entries first.

I presume, those would be the destinations - for the TOC in your TOC file?

No, the TOC should link to the page of the subject matter.
Re-linking now in progress...

Yes, I know. My red lines point to pages where found texts are located - page on the left is just to show all texts together 😉
Here is another teaser - info pulled from both documents:
But for some reason - those two marked entries - texts in both files - differ somehow...
They have the same length - but order of the documents should be like the rest.
I'll have to dig deeper.

I've no idea what is wrong with those two texts - but with a little workaround - it's sorted as it should be:
Now, it's just a case of creating Hyperlinks.

Does this mean I need your updated file?
I'm already deep into creating hyperlinks on one you sent earlier.

I hope not ... as long as they'll work - I'll try to rename them if needed.
Unless, when you make them working - they'll be named correctly?

So far, they are named correctly - including new links.

@Robert at ID-Tasker
FYI: I've successfully created the Book PDF with functional hyperlinks (after crashing first, but I figured out which links were broken).
Huge appreciation for your hands-on expertise in getting me to this point!!!! I cannot stress my relief enough!
For anyone experiencing this problem:
• Broken links were the culprit for all crashes when making Book PDF in this case. They are not always marked as such in the Hyperlinks pane, therefore manual checking is needed. Unless there's some amazing script out there...
• Creating a new, blank doc and moving the pages over from the corrupt destination doc restored linkability to it. Ditto for recovering hyperlinks that were previously missing in the Hyperlinks pane.
• Restoring the names of the hyperlinks (which had defaulted to numbers) was achieved by Robert's magic (self-made app).

Great to hear 🙂 And you are welcome )

Of course there is 😉
Column DEST DOC PATH - as shown - for HyperlinkExternalPageDestination - if there is no FileName - empty cell - this means, that the Hyperlink for this destination is broken.
And here is even better example:
TYPE column - as you can see, there are only Text Sources available - there are no any kind of a destination - and there is also message in the DESTINATION column for the parent Hyperlink.
I can't find any other types of broken Hyperlinks in your document, but if I remember correctly - a similar message will be displayed for other kinds of problems.

Out of 142 HyperlinkExternalPageDestinations - only 4x are OK.

Awesome! Can you provide a link to access for PC users?
Any plans for making a Mac-friendly version?

You are welcome.
It's not like I don't want - it's just, I don't have access to a Mac - then, this level of functionality can't be achieved using JavaScript.
Even proper plug-ins are out of the question.

I've assumed - maybe incorrectly - that there was a reason for you to make TOC manually?
But TOC can be generated from the whole Book?

The next gen of this doc will be a total overhaul and will incorporate auto TOC, among other more current features.

Just reading through this thread. It felt like being in a roller coaster. Great to see a problem being resolved like this. Big up @Robert at ID-Tasker, did a amazing job here.
