I have to convert my files eventhough I have done all the updates (18.1)

Hello,

I have a probleme with indesign : everytime I try to open one of my collegue's file, inDesign asks me to convert my file or to do the last update in order to open it, as it was made with a more recent version.

I have done all the updates (18.1), so I don't understand why it doesnt simply works without converting the file.

Thank you for your help,

Anne

I solved my problem : For a strange reason all my adobe application were installed twice. Indesign was installed with an 18.1 version and an 17.4 version. I couldn't update indesign anymore throught Creative Cloud so I thought I was working with the latest version, but I wasn't.

I deleted all the old doublons, it works perfectly now.

Thank you for your help !

Hi @Anne28494168x0s0 ,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind confirming the region where your colleague shared the file or cross-check the version of InDesign on his end? Could you also ask your colleague to share any other sample file, try opening it, and let us know how it goes.

Regards

Rishabh

Any possibility that your colleague is using a beta version?

Is your colleague using the same version or a higher version. This can be the issue.

OP says she's on 18.1.  Shouldn't be a problem to open any file created with any dot release of version 18, right? Only thing I can think of that would trigger this is a beta.

Just for future reference when installing a new version of InDesign make sure that the option to remove previous versions is enabled during the install. This will prevent a reccurance of what happened to you this time. One other suggestion is to not use the option to import previous settings and preferences. This option often leads to a myriad of difficulties in running the new version.

I vehemently disagree with removing old versions. You don't have to use them,. but if for some reason you discover you need to for a particular job there is, at this point, virtually no way to restore them beyond one version back without backup copies and a lot of hoop jumping.
