On my personal computer I'm still using Adobe CS6. I recently starting working for a company that uses the latest versions of Adobe CC. On my older version of inDesign I can easily align and snap objects to each other without using the Align panel. Little guides appear and disappear as you move objects around making it really easy to align and space different objects. I can also grab any object and drag it around towards the centre of the page and similar faint centre guides (both vertical and horizontal) will appear then disappear once the object has been placed in the centre of the page. For the life of me I cannot find how to activate this simple function on Adobe CC. If anyone has an anwser for me it would be greatly appreciated!

    Correct answer Barb Binder

Enable View > Grids & Guides > Smart Guides.  If they are on and it still isn't working, disable View > Grids & Guides > Snap to Document Grid.
