I want to start the footnote from 1 in the text without creating a section in the page panel

footnote I want to start over each section but when I create graffiti style without creating sections, footnote doesn't start over? so I don't want to create a section from the page panel, I just want to create footnotes.

example:
I want to start the footnote from 1 in the text without creating a section in the page panel
I want to start from 1 in each chapter

Hi @Harun 34, I am not very experienced with footnotes, but I can't see how you can do what you want with the basic features. With "Document Footnote Options" you can set "Restart Numbering every" Page/Spread/Section, but there don't seem to be any other options. Would it work for the footnote numbering to start every page or spread?

If that doesn't help you, can you post an example of your footnotes so we may think outside the box?

Hi @Harun 34 ,

could you split your document to several documents, one document for every new start of numbering in the footnotes?

Then you could use an InDesign book file to hold all documents together and maintain pagination automatically if you add or remove pages from individual documents.

Just for comment: Script written 3 years ago for a client.

Note if the layout moves (footnotes removed or added), the user will just need to run the script again to update! Let's say such a script is pretty cool: it adds a new feature to ID, allowing a restarting from ... a para style! šŸ˜‰ Join FRIdNGE on Facebook! ...

As usual with Michels scripts, they are nowhere to be found. That means you gotta pay, not that that is per se bad, but commercial activities are not allowed in these forums. That said, try getting information on how to buy, also nowhere to be found (ad usual)...

Mr.

When we create a heading style and move on to the next heading, the footnote should start over and there should be an option in the style.
With paragraph styles this should be easier. In fact, we have to write this to the program officials by e-mail.

I'm guessing that you can't use sections because sometimes you need to restart numbering somewhere in the middle of a page. In that case Uwe's suggestion (separate documents placed in a book file) isn't an option for you either. All that's left then is Michel's script. Happy negotiating!
