Icon for iDesign files that appears white.

Community Beginner ,
Apr 30, 2025 Apr 30, 2025

My question: Icon for InDesign files that appears white and not with the InDesign logo. What could be the reason? Is it a matter of different versions? In any case, when I double-click on the icon, the files open in InDesign. Thank you for your answer. What needs to be done to restore the normal situation?

Hi @Elishah98A5,

Thanks for reaching out. It could be related to file association issue on your system. Since the files still open correctly when double-clicked, that's a good sign, but to restore the correct icons, you can try reassigning the file type to InDesign again.

Could you also share a sample screenshot of what you're seeing on your end? That would help better understand the issue. Additionally, please let me know which version of InDesign and operating system you're using.

Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek

Thank you very much dear Abhishek,
I am using Windows version 10, InDesign version 2025.
Attached a sample screenshot.
On the right are two InDesign files, as you can see they are white. Before I was going to answer your email I checked the properties of the bottom icon, and what you see is that in the file name line the icon is white, and next to the open with heading the icon is an InDesign icon.
Thank you very much,

Hello @Elishah98A5,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you try rebuilding the icon cache in Windows using the suggestions in this third-party article (https://adobe.ly/4d66fN2) to see if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue but none of the fixes on link worked for me. If I change the default program to Photoshop I get the photoshop thumbnail but when I change it back it Indesign I get a blank thumbnail.

Hi @Abraham36799070o8ri , Do your file have the .indd extention? The screenshot @Elishah98A5  is showing doesn’t seem to have .indd in its title. Not sure if that would be a problem on Windows?

Mine are both the  .innd and .indt extensions and if I change the default program to something like Photoshop I get an icon but when I change it back to InDesign I get the white icon.

Hello @Abraham36799070o8ri,

Could you confirm the version of the OS/InDesign installed, and share a small screen recording of the problem, so I can better assist you? Also, try logging in under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and using Adobe Bridge (https://adobe.ly/4mNKV3f) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
