Hi,
We have a user with the latest Mac Studio, running the latest Creative Cloud. She works from home some days and other days, on site.
She works off of an external USB drive, so the Indesign file and links etc are stored on the external. This way she can transport the artwork with her. I realise this means the data isnt backed up until copied off for archiving etc etc blah de blah but I dont want to debate working methods here.
She has worked this way for years without any issue but recently has a problem where if she places a link, say a PDF or an image by navigating to the folder and selecting it, then tries to place another link that is in the same folder right after, the file browser reverts back to the root folder of the USB drive. It doesnt keep the last link placement location.
Testing this, if the links are on the local HDD, its not a problem. Its just recently starting being an issue with the external drive.
Has anyone else experienced this, where the file path reverts to the root folder when placing images from an external drive? Thanks.

Go to the InDesign Preferences
Under File Handling
There's a Links section
Choose the default Relink Folder to be the Most Recent Relink Folder.

But andrew says it works fine on a local drive?
So maybe it's rather OS problem?
Any recent OS updates?

Thanks for the reply. I checked this setting in the preferences but it is as above but I think I have now have tracked down the cause.
I have done a little troubleshooting and have discovered its something to do with folder tagging. The user Tag's her folders depending on the status of the job. Any folder that has a tag assigned to it causes this problem where you place an image but then when you place another image right after, the file browser dumps you right back to the root of the drive.
To fix this for now I have just told her to untag the folder that she is working on. I'm not sure if this is an Indesign issue or Mac OS but it does seem related to tagging.
The external drive is Mac formatted btw.

Try saving from a non-Adobe app and see if the same thing happens.
I don't know - I don't use tagging on the Macs - never saw the point.
