Help!
I'm designing a quote template document for a client - in which they'd like an editable table that can add up their inputted data (once exported as a pdf). I'm not exactly sure how to pull this off - but thought I'd start by importing/placing an excel/numbers table as a starting point. No matter what I do, what preferences are clicked - every time I try to place any .xlsx file - InDesign says: "Cannot place this file. No filter found for requested operation." I've tried different formats from numbers, to excel, to downloaded sheets from google docs - no luck. I've checked the "create links when placing text and spreadsheet files" box under Preferences > File Handling, too. My mac software and adobe software is all up-to-date.
Any help/advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!
Thank you!

This is typical of "fake" Excel documents created in other applications such as Google Sheets. Was the file actually saved in Excel?

Thanks for responding so quickly! The original file is made in Numbers - not Microsoft Excel (I don't have it). Will find and try an original Excel file.

Hi @rob day,
I don't have this as an option when exporting!

Looks like Apple dropped the option. I rarely use Numbers and am still using an old version 6.1

I have a feeling you are going to need to save the .xlsx directly from Microsoft Excel.

As I mentioned earlier, these fake Excel files just don't work. Issues also arise with fake Word docs. Opening in the real programs can usually, but not always help.
If the OP would like to post the fake Excel file, I'll be happy to open it and resave it here to see if helps.

My Apple Number’s .xls export Format works, but looks like the newer Numbers versions no longer include that option.

Hi @BobLevine - will try this tomorrow. Will borrow someones microsoft excel! Appreciate that offer - am currently only in testing mode - so don't even have the proper excel sheet ready. If I can't get access to one - might take you up on that!
