indb file not opening

Community Beginner ,

I cannot seem to access my indb file unless it is the first thing that I open in indesign.  If I close and reopen indesign the indb file will open.   Another issue is if I dock the book panel and open a file work on it and then close it indesign goes back to the opening working space ie where I can see thumbnails but the book panel is not visible and will not re-open, however if I do not dock the book panel and open/close any of the files the book panel stays visible at all times, regardless

Hi ldofout:

not 100% sure what you mean by the window menu.

The menu bar runs along the top of InDesign. The Window menu is the second-to-last menu on the menu bar, just before the Help menu.

Hi ldofout:

Sometimes the book window will hide itself. When you can't find it, look for it listed at the bottom of the Window menu. If it is listed, clicking its name should bring it to the foreground.

I have read that can happen but not 100% sure what you mean by the window menu.  I have looked at the bottom of the screen where I have icons telling which programmes are open and then which files.  if that is the correct one then no it does not appear.
